He
will lie in state from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at
South Side Christian Church, 2600 S. MacArthur in
Springfield. His funeral service will follow at
10:30 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery,
where the Illinois National Guard and Sangamon
County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct
military honors.
He was born Oct. 3, 1931, in Bruchsal, Germany.
His parents were Earnst and Frieda Rennwald Ade. He
married Eunice Migon Holt on Dec. 9, 1951, after
meeting her in the viola section of the Illinois
Symphony Orchestra. She preceded him in death on
Feb. 4, 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary (and David)
Stanley of Brownwood, Texas, and Gloria (and Benton
B.) Ade-Read of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Harlan
M. (and Luciana) Stanley, Peter A. Stanley and
Amanda A. (and Toma Dimov) Dimova; and five
great-grandchildren, Warren, Avalon, Sakiusa,
Violeta and Milena.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and
one brother.
He was a member of South Side Christian Church,
Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 27, Mercedes
Club, Iron Riders, German Club, Smart Car Club,
Railsplitter Wanderers, National Rifle Association,
served as captain of the Illinois National Guard
rifle team, was active with the Prairie State Games
and served on the board of directors for the Korean
War National Museum.
After his marriage he was drafted into the U.S.
Army and served in Korea. While there his unit, the
5th Regimental Combat Team, started an orphanage,
the Sam Dong Boys Town in Seoul, South Korea, which
he visited several times. He retired from the
Illinois National Guard as a lieutenant colonel.
The family requests memorial contributions to the
Illinois Symphony Orchestra or Korean War National
Museum.
