Gerald 'Jerry' Roger

[November 09, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Gerald Dale "Jerry" Roger, 71, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at his home.

A graveside service with military rites will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Green Hill Cemetery, San Jose.

Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Roger worked for NASA for 17 years. He left NASA to care for his ailing mother and aunt. He ran and managed an antique store in Delavan in early 2000, and in 2002 he moved to San Jose to take care of his best friend, Larry Higginbotham, until this past year he became ill himself.

He served in the Army Special Forces from 1961-1964 during the Vietnam War.

He was born Dec. 23, 1939, in Peoria to Leonard Charles Roger and Frederica Lenore Roger.

He is survived by his friend and fellow veteran Larry Higginbotham of Lincoln and an adopted son named Leonard from Africa.

Jerry's parents preceded him in death.

Funeral Directors

He was a member of Blue Lodge 156 in Delavan, Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria, Shriners International and Royal Arch Masons of Pekin Chapter 25.

Memorials may be given to the military organization of the donor's choice.
