Viola Rickey

[November 26, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Viola I. Bierman Rickey, 91, of Lincoln, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at 8:25 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henderson officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Rickey worked for 25 years for the Army Corps of Engineers in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born on July 9, 1920, at Neodesha, Kan. Her parents were Fred and Trudy Bierman. She married Edward T. Rickey on Sept. 23, 1939, in East St. Louis. He preceded her in death in 1991.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas (and Betty) Rickey of Ledbetter, Ky., and Steve (and Sandy) Rickey of DeSoto, Mo.; one daughter, Carol (and Stephen) Smerek of Lake Wales, Fla.; one sister, Winifred Trapp of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Pauline Hoar, and two grandchildren, Mindy and John Smerek.

Vi was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln.
