Sylvia Whitlock

[October 06, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Sylvia Irene Whitlock, 81, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in New Union Cemetery, next to her husband, Ronald Whitlock.

She retired from Lincoln Developmental Center after many years of service.

She was born June 1, 1930, in Harrisburg. Her parents were Arlie Joiner and Ressie Belford Joiner. She married Ronald Whitlock on Feb. 14, 1987. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2011.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Daugherty of Lincoln; two sons, John Farmer (and wife Sue) of Mount Carmel and Richard Collard Jr. of Hartsburg; grandchildren Dale Heidbreder Jr. (and Christa) of Carterville, Johnny Farmer of Mount Carmel, Eric Farmer (and Misty) of Colfax, La., Amber Daugherty Morris (and Jeremy) of Normal and April Ward (and Kevin) of Nashville, Tenn.; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Parkinson and Arlie Joiner, and two sisters, Lois Horchem and Jeanette West.

Funeral Directors

She loved her cat, Tiger, as well as tending to her garden and fishing.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and American Lung Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
