will now wait for the results of lab tests taken at the
autopsy in hopes that they will shed light on the untimely death of Malmquist. It was not known exactly when such tests will be
completed. Lincoln police and emergency responders were called to
the Heritage South dormitory on the campus shortly before 1 p.m.
Tuesday. Upon arrival of emergency personnel, Malmquist was
unresponsive and was rushed to ALMH, where he was pronounced dead at
1:41 pm.
Lincoln police said an investigation is ongoing.
The college released the following statement regarding the
student's death:
"Lincoln College is saddened by the death of Brett Malmquist, a
student at our Lincoln campus, who died on Tuesday.
"Although Brett was only with us for a short time after
transferring from his home state of Arizona this fall semester, he
quickly left a positive impression on his peers, especially his
teammates and coaches on the Lynx swimming and diving team. He was
well-regarded for his sense of humor, caring nature and athletic
ability.

"The exact circumstances of Brett's death are still under review
from local authorities and medical personnel. Lincoln College is
cooperating with all local professionals as they seek answers. We
will continue to cooperate until a conclusive determination is made
in Brett's death.
"While our campus grieves Brett's passing, we know our suffering
is small in comparison to the grief his parents, siblings, extended
family and close friends are experiencing. We offer all of those
impacted by Brett's death our deepest condolences. Our students,
faculty and staff will hold them in our thoughts and prayers in the
days ahead."
