To the editor: This letter is regarding E911 surcharge changes
being proposed for cellphones. I agree that landline usage has
decreased and understand that E911 has lost revenues because of
that; however, I do not believe that an across-the-board surcharge
to every cellphone is the answer.
It would be unfair to homeowners who have retained a landline and
also carry a cellphone. For my household alone, we would be paying
the surcharge times four, as we have a landline and three
cellphones. This does not seem fair at all.
I believe they should look at adding the surcharge to electrical
service bills. All households have electricity, and in this way it
would be fair for all and not lopsided to those who still carry a
landline and several cellphones for one household.
