Letters to the Editor

Lincoln Daily News welcomes letters of appreciation, information and opinion on matters pertaining to the community.

Controversial issues:
As a community we need to be able to talk openly about matters that affect the quality of our lives. The most effective and least offensive manner to get your point across is to stick to the issue and refrain from commenting on another person's opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

Surcharge on cellphones

To the editor:

This letter is regarding E911 surcharge changes being proposed for cellphones. I agree that landline usage has decreased and understand that E911 has lost revenues because of that; however, I do not believe that an across-the-board surcharge to every cellphone is the answer.

It would be unfair to homeowners who have retained a landline and also carry a cellphone. For my household alone, we would be paying the surcharge times four, as we have a landline and three cellphones. This does not seem fair at all.

I believe they should look at adding the surcharge to electrical service bills. All households have electricity, and in this way it would be fair for all and not lopsided to those who still carry a landline and several cellphones for one household.
