Donald Johnston

[September 02, 2011]  DECATUR -- Donald Dean Johnston, 77, of Decatur, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at 12:05 p.m. at his home.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Ryan Edgecombe officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason, with military rites by American Legion Post 263 of Lincoln.

Mr. Johnston retired from the Decatur Sanitation District as a supervisor in 1996.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1934, in Lincoln. His parents were Stanley and Evelyn Langhoff

He is survived by five daughters, Penny (and Steven) Detrick of Marquette Heights, Pamela McFarland of Lincoln, Debra Allen of Hartsburg, Tonya Houghton of Lincoln and Ashley Johnston of Decatur; three sons, Jeffrey Johnston (and Beth VanCleve) of Green Valley, Scott Johnston of Lincoln and Donald Johnston Jr. of Decatur; three brothers, Gene (and Barbara) Johnston of Indio Hills, Calif., Bobby (and Evelyn) Johnston of Amarillo, Texas, and Kenneth (and Ruth) Johnston of Carlinville; three sisters, Marilyn Nusbaum of Sterling, Connie (and Tim) Kuehl of Morrison and Linda (and Joe) Sloto of Sikeston, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Director

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Duane Ashley; and one sister, Janis Creekpaum.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
