Willard Aughton

[September 12, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Willard E. Aughton, 96, of Lincoln, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at 9:45 a.m. at St. John's Hospital, Springfield.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Peck officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Mr. Aughton was a state of Illinois employee in the Department of Mental Health.

He was born on Dec. 20, 1914 in Lincoln. His parents were Willard Lewis and Emily Edgerley Aughton. He married Frances N. Awe, and she preceded him in death on May 20, 1997.

He is survived by six children, Donna Moore of Lincoln, Georgeanne Escue (and Vaughn Brunazi) of Fredericktown, Pa., Suzzanne Douglas of Sarasota, Fla., Danny Aughton of Atlanta, Roxanne "Snookie" (and Curt) Knowles of Apple Valley, Minn., and Willard "Fritz" Aughton of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two special great-nieces, Allyson and Kathryn Benner.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Luckhart and Roberta Crane; and one brother, Danny Aughton.
