[September 17, 2011]  EAST PEORIA -- The Lincoln College men's soccer team put in a great team performance Thursday night versus Region 24 rival Illinois Central. There is a lot of history in the recent past between these two teams, as they met in the region final, where the Lynx won on penalty kicks.

The game started off with a feeling of another great matchup, with both teams high-pressing and pushing the tempo with the ball.

Lincoln scored first as a 1-2 combo between Edwin Moalosi and Adrien Sathler beat the back line and a crossed ball found Ruben Gaytan in the box, who calmly slotted the first and game-winning goal. Lincoln went on to score another goal that half when Diego Figuroa found a lost ball on a free kick and slotted it past the outstretched hands of ICC’s keeper.

Lincoln would seal the game in the second half when Adrien Sathler found Chukwuka Iwe in the box for the third goal.

The game ended with a score of 3-0.

LC coach Ben Massena commented: "Great performances by the back four of Anders Madsen, Diego Figueroa, Anders Fegri and Jorge Barallaga. Keeping the clean sheet with six saves was freshman Mario Alfaro."

The Lynx (4-3, 3-0 in region) take on region opponent Lewis and Clark in Godfrey at 11 a.m. Sunday.
