[September 17, 2011]  The NCCAA Division II Lincoln Christian University volleyball season is well under way as the Red Lions (3-3) have six matches under their belt.

In their home opener on Sept. 1, the LCU Red Lions beat Grace Bible College from Grand Rapids, Mich., in three games: 25-13, 25-14, 25-16. Their second match on the same day, against Eureka College, proved to be another easy three-game win: 25-7, 25-15, 25-20.

Competition was tougher as they headed into a tournament at Augustana College in Rock Island over Labor Day weekend, playing three NCAA Division III teams and one NAIA team. They lost to St. Ambrose University, Augustana College and Central College but rallied to beat Buena Vista University in an exciting five-game match.

After being named to the all-tournament team, senior Jamie McFadden said she was honored to be chosen, but that it was really her team that makes her look good. She said that individual awards always reflect a team effort and good coaching.

Head coach Jason Farr and assistant coach Dave Donnelly are excited to have six new players on the roster this year: Alicia Carson, freshman (Bloomingdale, Mich.); Emma Donnelly, freshman (Clinton); Kati Johnson, junior (Emden); Samantha Nichols, freshman (Mount Pulaski); Stephanie O’Malley, freshman (Milton, N.C.); and Annie Pickett, freshman (Rochester).

Those six join returning players Lydia Bunting, senior (Ellery); Anna DeVillez, junior (Pine Village, Ind.); Britney Flora, sophomore (Heyworth); Sopha Hughes, sophomore (Oblong); Rachel Langseth, junior (Stewartville, Minn.); McFadden (Lincoln); Emily Sheley, sophomore (Lincoln); and Hannah Taylor, sophomore (Mishawaka, Ind.).

Grace Ernst, a freshman (Palmyra), is the manager for the Red Lions, and Dave Ulrich, a junior (Tinley Park), serves as the student assistant coach.

The Red Lions will play next on Sept. 22 in Ankeny, Iowa, where they will take on the Eagles from Faith Baptist Bible College. From there, they will travel to Grace University in Omaha, Neb, on Sept. 23 for the Grace Classic.
