Arthur Jones

[September 19, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Arthur R. Jones, 87, of Lincoln, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at 10:24 a.m. at Asta Health Care Center in Bloomington.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor John Nelson officiating

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, with military rites performed by American Legion Post 263.

Mr. Jones retired from the Logan County Highway Department.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Maritime Service and the U.S. Navy. During the Korean War, he served in the National Guard and Army.

He was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Lincoln. His parents were James and Margaret Beaver Jones. He married G. Louise Murphy on April 7, 1946, in Lincoln, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2010.

He is survived by four children, Cathy (and Edward) Jacobs of Lincoln, Janet (and Larry) Scheid of Springfield, Brenda Jones of Lincoln and Gary Jones of Lincoln; one brother, Lawrence Jones of Lincoln; and three grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Nickolas Scheid and Stephanie Scheid.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Jones, and three brothers, Seymour Jones, Edgar Jones and Melvin Jones.
