Alan Watson

[September 20, 2011]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Alan James Watson, 58, an Illinois native, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at 2:30 a.m. at his home in Elgin, S.C. He had lung cancer.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski will conduct private services.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mr. Watson was a regional director for a small consumer loan company for many years. He lived in California, Indiana, and North and South Carolina until his illness caused his retirement.

He was born Dec. 27, 1952, in Peoria. His parents were Loren and Marilyn Watson. He married Paula Vargo on Oct. 10, 1987, in Florida.

He is survived by his wife; his father, of Peoria; two brothers, Jeff Watson and wife Sue of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Merle Watson and wife Bambi of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Linda Beeson and husband Trey of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Travis Jeffrey Watson and wife Veronica of San Angelo, Texas, and Tyler James Watson and wife Chelsea of Portland, Texas; two grandchildren, Kristena Watson and a grandchild born in May; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His mother preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2011.

Funeral Director

He attended grade school in Mossville for eight years before his father was transferred to Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1970. He attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas, on a basketball scholarship and received his associate degree from there in 1972. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Springfield in 1983.
