Gladys Ubbenga

[September 21, 2011]  HARTSBURG -- Gladys M. Ubbenga, 89, of Hartsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at 10:26 a.m. at Mason City Area Nursing Home, Mason City.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, with the Rev. John Schurter officiating.

Burial will be at Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Ubbenga was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. She also worked at Lehn & Fink cosmetic factory.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1922, at San Jose. Her parents were Ullie and Tena Rohlfs Rademaker. She married Leo M. Ubbenga on July 30, 1941, in Missouri, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (and Don) Hughes of Bartonville and Nancy (and Don) Boudeman of Armington; five grandchildren, Kim (and Larry) Koch, Dr. Brad (and Stephanie) Hughes, Dr. Brian (and Jodie) Hughes, Matt (and Lindsey) Boudeman and David (and Jenna) Boudeman; 12 great-grandchildren, Brandon Petrakis, Victoria Koch, Megan, Logan, Ian and Talon Hughes, Emma, Ethan and Aiden Hughes, Taylor and Easton Boudeman, and Mia Boudeman; and one sister, Margaret (and Jim) Blane of San Jose.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral Director

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Emden and the Logan County Farm Bureau.

Gladys enjoyed flower gardening and loved baking for others.

She loved to have her family around her for holiday gatherings. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren added an extra richness to her life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Memorials may be given to Mason City Area Nursing Home.
