Washington-Monroe students were taught to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” last Thursday by Daniel Smith, Region 7 coordinator for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and Dan Fulscher, director of the Logan County Emergency Management Agency, in preparation for the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut on Feb. 7. The school’s students will provide demonstrations of earthquake safety procedures to be videotaped and used at schools across Illinois.

To register for the ShakeOut, go to www.shakeout.org/centralus. To learn more about earthquakes in Illinois, go to www.iema.illinois.gov. Watch for more on earthquakes and preparedness activity in Tuesday’s Lincoln Daily News.
