Lincoln Daily News
welcomes letters of appreciation, information and
opinion on matters pertaining to the community.
Controversial issues:
As a
community we need to be able to talk openly about
matters that affect the quality of our lives. The
most effective and least offensive manner to get
your point across is to stick to the issue
and refrain from commenting on another person's
opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the
issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

To the editor: I want to commend Mayor Snyder for his presentation
of the truth about gambling.
For the small percentage of revenue we might (or might not)
receive, the impact of money being lost by individuals and families
looking for a quick fix to their financial situation is already
incredibly detrimental to our town without gambling being added into
the mix. The cultural trend to get something for nothing -- to get
paid for not working -- is an erosion of our economy, not a help.
And also, the families who are struggling financially who will go
under because of this are seldom mentioned.

The joy and satisfaction of a job well-done is unknown to many of
our adults as well as teens.
I urge the city council to vote "NO" on this proposal.

Retired children's minister
