case at least Thursday when several of the Logan
County emergency service agencies, state
agencies and even some special forces converged
on Logan County to conduct disaster drills.
According to local EMA director Dan Fulscher,
the day went well. Look for more coverage

Thursday
during the IEMA disaster drills, members of the
Lincoln Fire Department arrived on the
"accident" scene in their newly purchased 2008
Chevrolet Tahoe. Typically this vehicle
will go to fires with the fire trucks. It
holds extra equipment used for firefighting,
such as firemen's safety gear. The city of
Lincoln approved the purchase of the used two-wheel-drive SUV at the last voting session of
the Lincoln City Council.

About two weeks ago we showed you
mama robin sitting on her nest. Well, this week
all of her efforts have paid off as there are three new
babies now in the nest. Only a few days old,
the baby birds are far from pretty. They have
very few feathers and only a small amount of fuzzy
hair. Their heads and beaks are larger than
their bodies. When they are waiting for mama
to feed them, they stretch their necks up and open
their beaks so mom can drop food straight down into
their throats.

300-foot-long wire suspended 100 feet in the air between two
towers of the Conrad Condado Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto
Rico. They were honoring Nik's great-grandfather Karl Wallenda,
who tried to perform the same feat in 1978 but fell to his death
at age 73. On Friday, Nik will attempt a high-wire walk over Niagara Falls on
live television, hoping to write his famous family's name into
the 153-year-old legend of daredevils who've "conquered" the
natural wonder.
San
Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain celebrates after the final out of the ninth
inning of a baseball game against the Houston Astros in San Francisco on
Wednesday. Cain pitched the 22nd perfect game in major league
history and first for the Giants, striking out a career-high 14 and getting help
from two spectacular catches to beat the Houston Astros 10-0.
