Ruth
Ann Hieronymus waits for the beginning of this
year's Relay for Life at the Lincoln Center on Friday
night. She was the honorary
chair for the 12-hour event that wrapped
up early Saturday morning. Hieronymus is a
three-time survivor of cancer and very well-known for her community involvement. She
dedicates herself to spreading the word that no
one should ignore the signs or symptoms of
cancer. In Monday's edition, LDN will have more coverage
from this year's Relay for Life.

Golfers
enjoyed an afternoon in the sun for a good cause
Friday. Several participated in the 17th
annual Lincoln D.A.R.E. Golf Outing. The
outing is the primary fundraiser for the local D.AR.E. program, providing funding for youth
education programs as well outings for kids, such
as the annual pizza party at the park district
and the Nathan Turner Fishing Derby.

No one can say
LDN has gone to the dogs! Yesterday it was
birds, and today it is this cute little chipmunk. He looks like he's found a bit of sun to
meditate and say his prayers, but in reality,
there is a little bit of food between his front
paws, and he's enjoying a lunch on the greens at
the Elks Lodge while watching the golf outing
for D.A.R.E.

In this Sept. 23, 2011, file
image originally released by AARP, from left, Emilio Estevez,
Ramon Estevez, Martin Sheen and Charlie Sheen pose at the
premiere of Emilio's film "The Way," as part of AARP's
Movies for Grownups at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Martin Sheen
admits to guilt about how his offspring were affected, in
earlier years, by the alcoholism that bedeviled him and by his
consuming career ambitions. If he had it to do over again, he
wouldn't have had four children, he says; he would have had
eight: "For how do we know ourselves but through our children?"
