[May 02, 2012]  The city of Lincoln and the Logan County Board will co-host public meetings Thursday on the topic of electric aggregation.

There will be two meetings in the Lincoln Park District Ballroom, one at 2:30 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. All residents and small business owners in the city of Lincoln are encouraged to attend. Residents who live in unincorporated areas of the county are also urged to attend.

The meetings will conclude the next step of establishing an aggregation program in the city and county by fulfilling the requirement for two public hearings introducing the draft copy of the official "Plan of Governance" to the public.

The plan will outline definitions of terms that will be commonly used during the process and will define the role of the governing bodies and the aggregation consultant.

There is a section in the plan that outlines how an electric supplier will be selected and a section that explains how the plan will be implemented and offered to customers.

The goal of the city and county is to seek out electricity providers who can offer cost-savings to those who are currently Ameren Illinois customers. They hope to do this by joining together within the county all rural Ameren customers who qualify and all city of Lincoln customers as well as those in other incorporated parts of the county. By forming a larger customer base, they hope to acquire a better price for electricity.
