[October 15, 2012]  Illinois American Water will be flushing water mains and hydrants throughout the Lincoln District. Flushing will continue for several weeks and is expected to be completed in November.

Illinois American Water conducts an annual flushing program of its water distribution system to help ensure continued high-quality water service. Flushing the system entails sending a rapid flow of water through the water mains. As part of the flushing program, fire hydrants are checked and operated to help ensure fire protection in the community.

While the flushing program is under way, customers may experience a temporary drop in water pressure or draw some discolored water for a short period of time. If this occurs, customers should simply let the water run briefly, and the situation should clear up on its own.

Anticipated flushing schedule for Illinois American Water's Lincoln District:

  • Oct. 17 -- East of railroad tracks to Lincoln Avenue

  • Oct. 18 -- East of railroad tracks from Lincoln Avenue to Lincolnwood. Includes all of Mayfair.

  • Oct. 19 -- Between railroad tracks and Union from Decatur Street to Feldman Drive.

  • Oct. 22 -- Between Broadwell Drive and Fourth Street.

  • Oct. 23 -- Between Fourth Street and Ninth Street.

  • Oct. 24 -- Between Ninth Street and Woodlawn Road.

  • Oct. 25 -- Between Woodlawn Road and Feldman Drive.

  • Oct. 26 -- West of Lincoln Parkway from Fifth Street to Woodlawn.

  • Oct. 29 -- West of Lincoln Parkway on Woodlawn to Interstate 55.
