For an authentic Germanfest, one has to have authentic German potato salad, and to get that, you have to have the taters. Friday morning Wayne Conrady delivered his annual donation of potatoes to St. John United Church of Christ. Pictured with Conrady, who is on the far left, are Larry Ingram and Toni Reifsteck, who helped get the 400-plus pounds of potatoes into the church. The St. John UCC Germanfest will be on Saturday.

Today is Rachel Morrow's special day. She is the second-grader who will get the honor of being driven to school by the Lincoln Fire Department.

Rachel took first place among all the second-graders in the fire safety poster contest. Her poster depicts a house on fire with someone inside. The firefighter is there working to rescue the person. The person is at the window because she followed a very important rule that Rachel points out in her poster: Before you attempt to exit a room, feel the door. If the door is hot, do not open it.

Rachel attends Carroll Catholic School and is the daughter of Greg and Peggy Morrow of Lincoln.

Lincoln High School's Katlyn Hasprey recently finished T-48th in the IHSA State Golf Tournament. It was her first time ever to compete on the state level. Coach Christine Randall said she did a great job in spite of cold temperatures and high winds that fought her all the way. "Katlyn should be proud of the way she carried herself, representing Lincoln Community High School well," wrote coach Randall.
