Hake and
her staff worked with George Lacefield, chairman of the veterans committee for the Elks, to organize the free balloon rides. More than 50 veterans
picked up the passes from the Elks Lodge. Passes also included free
admission to the festival for the weekend and one tethered balloon
ride, either Friday or Saturday evening.
"We hope to partner with the Elks again next year to offer free
rides and admission to the festival," said Hake. "We felt like this was a good
way to honor the men and women that have sacrificed so much for our
country, and we are happy to be able to do (this) in partnership with the
Elks Lodge."
The check was presented to Hake by Floyd Schmidt, an Elks board
member, pictured above with Hake.
