Dear Editor: Lincoln Woman's Club District 17 GFWC IL once again
participated in "Operation Santa," a program to send Christmas
stockings to our troops. We want to thank the Lincoln community for
their donations of items to fill the sacks, which were mailed before
Thanksgiving to assure arrival before Christmas.
Our club was able to provide:
-
Five grocery boxes of
food and hygiene items.
-
Two grocery boxes of
socks (crew) and games.
-
Eighty Christmas
socks.
-
A total of 450
handwritten cards.
-
The sum of 315 Beanie
Babies.
-
Money for postage of
$236.
-
Plus 46 volunteer hours.
Each sock contained a pair of crew socks rolled up in the toe, a
sleeve of Girl Scout cookies, a Beanie Baby, toothbrush and
toothpaste, floss, snacks, cards for games, and a personal message
on a Christmas card.

Groups came to a central location and assembled the socks and
stapled them closed for shipping.
Thanks to all who donated and helped with this project. A total
of 20,009 socks were sent to troops away from home for the holidays.
Lincoln Woman's Club is very grateful for your generosity and
support of the project to cheer our troops during the holidays.
Sincerely,
Mary Cooper
Lincoln Woman's Club
GFWC Illinois District 17
