Wednesday afternoon Sheriff Steve Nichols made it official, announcing that he will run for a fourth term for the office of Logan County sheriff.

Nichols will compete for a spot on the ballot with Michael Geriets, who made an announcement this spring of his intent to run.

The two will face off as Republican candidates in the February 2014 primary election.

This month the featured artist at Lincoln City Hall is Joelle Sawicki. She is self- taught in the ancient art technique of batik. Sawicki creates her beautiful pieces using muslin, beeswax and cold water dyes. There are several wonderful pieces on display this month, so be sure to stop in and check them all out.

A 118-carat white diamond is shown on display at Sotheby's, a New York auction house, on Wednesday. The oval stone will be auctioned off in Hong Kong on Oct. 7 and has a pre-sale estimate of $28 million to $35 million. The current record for any white diamond is $26.7 million.
