Yesterday in Lincoln, conditions were perfect for a natural phenomenon often called snow cylinders or snow bowls. With freezing rain and sleet coating snow, and wind coming at just the right speed and angle, the snow surface will literally roll itself into a cylinder. This shot was taken behind Best Friends Animal Clinic just outside of town.

Today we're taking a break from the snow pile, because the word of the day for yesterday was ICE! The day started with a little bit of sleet, then freezing rain, and alas, it did end with another light coat of snow. For the wildlife, it was a tough day because feeders iced over and branches were slippery. For the human life, it was also a kind of tough day as sidewalks and streets became temporary skating rinks.
