The Logan County Emergency Management Agency opened its Emergency Operations Center for a briefing on the winter storm expected this weekend. While waiting for others to arrive, in the forefront Lincoln Fire Department's Chief Mark Miller has a word with Lincoln Mayor Keith Snyder, while EMA director Dan Fulscher (standing) prepares to address the room. In the back
corner of the room, deputy director Terry Storer prepares to conduct a
National Weather Service power point of all the possible weather scenarios.
The slow moving front is expected to deliver gradual snow in the range of
eight to 10 inches total accumulation that would permit snow plows to keep
up. Roads are still expected to be hazardous and motorists are advised to
take caution and avoid travel unless necessary as conditions worsen on
Sunday.

On January 31st of this year Senior Chief Petty Officer Jared Coers retired from a 20 year career with the U.S. Navy Submarine Service.

Coers will remain connected to the navy through his new career working in Quality Assurance at General Dynamics Electric Boat in New London CT. General Dynamics designs and builds submarines.

Coers is the son of David and Roseann Coers of New Holland.

Take a good look because we do believe it is going to be a while before we see our snow pile this small again.  Heavy snow is predicted in areas of Central Illinois, and depending on who you listen to we in Logan County will see anything from a couple of inches to 8 or more.  The storm is expected to move in later this evening, so if you don't have your eggs, milk and bread bought yet, better head to the store.

Lincoln College is participating in the NJCAA National Wrestling tournament this weekend in Spokane WA.  Pictured above in purple is LC's Dequence Goodman pinning Ridgewater College's Zane Peterson.  Goodman was the second round champion in his class.
