The
Logan County Farm Bureau, Young Leaders Group,
conducted a crop tour of 2015 crops on the 20th of
August. The mission of the crop tour was to evaluate
the overall condition of the corn crop in Logan
County. Eli Klokkenga and Matt Wrage spearheaded the
crop tour with consistency and accuracy of the
assessment in mind.
Pictured is an outline of Logan County with stacks
of corn on the ear placed in areas representative of
the region where samples were taken. Taking into
consideration light test weights and areas in the
county where crops have been lost due to flooding,
the outcome indicated that in spite of those
detriments, the local yield may very well be a
higher than the anticipated average across the corn
belt. On August 12, Purdue University published an
article predicting average corn yields would come in
at 168.87 bushels/acre in the Midwest. The local
crop tour is projecting the county-wide average of
175.7 bushels per acre.
