Fire trucks lined both sides of the street in downtown Lincoln on Sunday, but there was no fire. The trucks were a collection of firefighting apparatus from around Logan County, plus from Mason City. They were there to kick-off Fire Prevention Month. On display for the public to enjoy were trucks of today and yesteryear. This week is National Fire Prevention week, but the city of Lincoln observes this all month long with a poster contest for school children, rides to school in a fire truck for the poster winners, educational visits to various Lincoln schools, and a special invitation for one school to have breakfast with the firefighters at the Lincoln Fire House.

On Saturday, the first Oktoberfest held by the Oasis Senior Center got off to a great start. Early in the day, guests filled the Oasis dining room to enjoy some wonderful German food. It was cloudy and cold outside, so hot food was hitting the spot very well for most guests. Outside a car show was taking shape on the south edge of the parking lot. There was also a flea market set up in the grassy area at the southeast corner of the parking lot. At the door of the center, Bubbles the Clown was doing face painting. Inside, guests were checking out the Oasis gift shop both before and after their lunch.

Prominently displayed in the gift shop was the new Oasis Cookbook. The book is on sale now, and though it may be a little early to think about it, this would make a great Christmas gift while helping a worthy cause.

Lincoln Youth Football League honored all its volunteers last Wednesday evening during practice break on the Eaton Fields. From left to right – Sam White was chosen as Volunteer of the Year, George Graham and Jay Bogdanic shared the Coach of the Year award with Steve Farris making the presentations.
