LDN -- Top Stories

For the first afternoon and evening of the 2019 Pigs and Swigs Festival on Friday, there is only one word to define downtown Lincoln....perfect. And perhaps even that word is not good enough. Around the square the weather was amazing, the crowds were large and everyone was happy.

The Dock Dogs events on Friday evening, in particular, brought in literally hundreds of spectators filling the Logan County Courthouse lawn and overflowing onto Broadway Street as folks gathered around the large pool to watch the dogs meet retrieval challenges over water.

Nearby, Lesleigh Bennett was on stage at the Swigs Homebrew side of the festival. Her beautiful voice wafted through the air and could be heard even by those too far away to see the performance. When she belted out a sweet slow song, she encouraged everyone to grab a partner and slow dance; many took her up on the offer.

Peeking out toward the corner of McLean and Pulaski Streets smoke was drifting toward the heavens and the smell was indeed heavenly as the many BBQ competitors fired up those grills for the first competition of the weekend, the steak cook-off.

Yes, indeed it was a perfect night and organizer Chris Graue was looking like the cat that swallowed the canary. He stood in the crowd at Dock Dogs and was so thrilled by the turn out of young, old, older, children, parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors; all gathered to watch a light-hearted and fun event.

The fun continues today with the BBQ competitions, the homebrew competition, bags tournament, more Dock Dogs, and the Oasis Craft and Vendor Fair at Scully Park. Weather permitting, it promises to be another really great day!
