The 2021 Year in Review continues in today's edition with a look back at the Lincoln City Council and the announcement that a portion of the former Lincoln Developmental Center will be used as a youth detention center by the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice.

The State of Illinois owns the property, so the initial discussion by the DOJJ was for informational purposes only. Later in the year, though, the DOJJ returned with a special request for a street closure.

Going into 2022, the request has not yet been granted.

On Wednesday afternoon, vehicles, with passengers seeking a free Coronavirus test, were wrapped around the old KFC/Taco Bell building at 2775 Woodlawn Road in Lincoln. Traffic flowed steadily through the drive-thru, almost like when chicken orders were being picked up back in the day.

According to social media posts, there was a backup on Wednesday morning due to issues inside the Covid Mobile Testing unit, but traffic flow returned to normal in the afternoon.

Citizens who desire a Covid test can go through the drive-thru and register onsite, or they may choose to make an appointment ahead of time. Testing appointments and pre-registration can be made by logging on to Freecovidcare.com. The mobile testing unit is at the Taco Bell location Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
