2021 Hometown HEROES Magazine LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 27, 2021 Page 3 HOMETOWN HEROES T here is no doubt that there are many great people who have lived here in Logan County: friendly people, outgoing people, people at the center of things, people with good words, some with good actions, and many with great smiles. It is heartwarming to think about those people who characterize our county and who have connected with our lives. But there is a class of people who have gone above and beyond, not just for a moment, but seemingly for the entire course of their lives. These people are involved at many levels with civic organizations, community activities, education, healthcare and many other ways that are significant. Their contributions to the lives of others is noticeable and remarkable, and we know that we can always rely on them. These people are the heroes of our community. How would you define a hero? A hero invests his/her life in other people. Their aim is to humbly serve and uplift their fellow citizens without fanfare, without accolades, and without repayment. There is encouragement in their spoken word, they help others get their lives and keep their lives on the right track, and always want the very best for their fellow citizen. A hero lives a sacrificial life, pouring out time and energy for the betterment of others in the community. Hometown Heroes was begun during the 2020 Covid-19 crisis to celebrate the courage and sacrifice of our amazing healthcare and service heroes. LDN decided to continue Hometown Heroes in 2021 as an annual tribute that illuminates the character and the contributions of a few of our everyday heroes here in Logan County. Of special note, when contacted not one of our nominees felt worthy of this honor, but humbly acquiesced for all our benefit. It is our hope that by these stories you might see and sense more of the goodness here in our midst and feel more inspired to help others. To all our heroes, noted and unnoted, we say, “Thank you!” for making our lives better. [LDN]
