T

he National Ag Statistics Office has released

2016 corn and soybean yields by county on

February 23. The state average corn yield was

197 bushels per acre, compared to the 175 bushel

per acre average of the 2015 season. The 2016

yield averages were Logan with 219.4 bushels

per acre, Menard with 209.3, and Sangamon with

222.1. By comparison, last year Logan County

averaged 172.8, Menard 188.2, and Sangamon

183.5. Record yields are the 2014 yields of

230.8 bushels per acre for Logan, Menard

averaged 226.8. Top corn yield counties were

Tazewell with 236, Woodford at 232.8, Carroll

averaging 231.9, Warren at 229.2, and Ogle

averaging 225.9. McLean had the top county

production for corn with 70,340,000 bushels for

the county. Production in Logan County was

Sangamon had 50,967,000 bushels produced.

for Logan and 185.41 for Sangamon. Menard

combined with other counties with a similar

situation.

The state soybean average yield was 59 bushels

to the acre, exceeding the 2015 average of 56.

Top counties were Piatt at 71.3, Carroll with 69,

Moultrie at 68.5, Macon averaging 68.2, and

Champaign at 67.7. Logan County established

a new record with an average yield of 66.6,

compared to last year’s 56.6. Menard County set

a new record with 63.6 bushels per acre average,

with a 2015 60 bushel average. The Sangamon

County yield also set a new high at 66.2 bushels

per acre, and the prior year averaged 60.7. Logan

County production was 9,156,000 bushels,

Sangamon County had production of 9,472,000,

and Menard had 3,910,000 bushels produced.

McLean County again led the state in production
