It was
almost 16 years ago that Coach Gary Stoltzenburg started
coaching baseball at Chester East Lincoln Grade School.
Yesterday, his son Mathew started his coaching
career.
“I’ve got tears in my eyes and chills in my
body,” Coach Stoltzenburg said before the game, referring
to the thought of his son coaching against him. “Just
think, my wife (Anne) and I are probably the only husband
and wife coaching at the elementary level, my son John
coaches at Lincoln College, Mathew is coaching at Hartem,
and Mark is playing baseball at Lincoln College.
This is great!”
Coach Gary Stoltzenburg’s sunglasses shielded tears
in his eyes as his son Mathew stepped out of the dugout. “John, Mark, and Anne are all going to be here to watch,”
Stoltzenburg said.
It was a family affair.
Support runs high in the Stoltzenburg family, and
especially in an event like this.
It’s not every day a father coaches against his
son. |
