A look at the Illinois State Fair
[AUG.
16, 2000]
The
state fair has endured changes since its inception, when the primary
goal was to promote improved methods of farming and raising livestock,
along with methods of labor, industry, education, and arts and
sciences. In following years, the fair was at various locations around
the state, traveling from Alton to Freeport, Decatur and Chicago,
until making its permanent home in Springfield in 1893. The fair has

existence, enduring not only a rotating list of sites and manager, but
a Civil War, when premiums were awarded but there was no general fair
location.

Peddicord. In the revised edition of her book "Look Like A
Winner After 50," she writes that "we consciously or
unconsciously associate beauty with youth, but true beauty is
ageless. Once we accept that, it is natural and appropriate to look
as good as we want to."

"Romeo
Must Die"
[AUG.
16, 2000]
Only
two movies came out this week at the local video store: "Romeo
Must Die" and "Whatever It Takes." The choices of
what to review were a little slim. So, I picked up Romeo and went
home to prepare to write this review. I took my preparation very
seriously: I watched "Rumble in the Bronx" with Jackie
Chan and "Enter the Dragon" with Bruce Lee, and then sat
down to watch Romeo and compare notes.
