Vada Thornton

Vada M. Thornton, 100, of Lincoln, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2000, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at Holy Family Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Edward Higgins officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kerrigan Funeral Home, Lincoln. The rosary will be at 4 p.m. and the wake service at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Thornton and her husband owned and operated Thornton Appliance and Gift Store in Lincoln for many years. She retired in 1965.

She was born Nov. 28, 1899, in Corydon, Ind., a daughter of Henry Lincoln and Nancy (Carroll) Hunter. She married Thomas Leo Thornton May 5, 1920, in Elkhart. He died Nov. 24, 1959.

Surviving are one son, Gerald Thornton of Springfield; four grandsons; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son and 12 brothers and sisters.

She was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln and of the former Daughters of Isabella of her church.

Memorials may be made to Carroll Catholic School or Holy Family Church, both in Lincoln.
