L. "Sonny" Deatrick
O.
L. "Sonny" Deatrick, 72, of Shirley was pronounced dead
of natural causes at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at his
residence.
Funeral
services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Quiram
Funeral Home in Atlanta. Clayne Beck will officiate.
Burial
will be in Funk’s Grove Cemetery, rural McLean, with military
rites conducted by the Heyworth American Legion Post 624.
Visitation
will be one hour before the services at the funeral home.
Deatrick
farmed in the Shirley area for many years. After he retired from
farming, he worked for the Thorp Seed Company in Wapella for nine
years.
He
was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He
was born Jan. 29, 1928, at LeRoy, a son of Edgar and Lois (Bishop)
Deatrick. He married Jane Cotton Oct. 20, 1952, at Fort Ord, Calif.
She survives.
Also
surviving are three daughters, Connie (and Tom) Stock of Armington,
Sandy (and Mark) Regenold of Farmer City and Sherry (and Scott)
Springer of Heyworth; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
four brothers, Paul Deatrick of Wapella, Delmar Deatrick of
Bloomington, Donald Deatrick of McLean and Roger Deatrick, also of
McLean; and two sisters, Margaret Spaulding of McLean and Charlene
Bertram of Stanford.
He
was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one
great-granddaughter.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the Heyworth Ambulance Service or the
Heyworth Christian Church.

Hartmann
Erna
S. Hartmann, 99, of Lincoln died at 8:35 p.m. Friday, March 17,
2000, at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.
Her
body was donated to medical science, and a memorial service will be
at a later date.
Mrs.
Hartmann was a clerk and bookkeeper.
She
was born Jan. 5, 1901, at Lincoln, a daughter of Daniel and Fannie
(Levy) Simon. She married Leo Hartmann in 1954 at Chicago. He died
in 1956.
Surviving
are two cousins, Len Levy of Chicago and Harold Levy of Belair,
Fla.; two grand-nieces, Deidre Wimmers and Denise Kostomay, both of
Fairfield, Ohio; and a grand-nephew, Dan Kostomay of Redmond, Wash.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers,
Fred J. and Sidney Simon; and two sisters, Martha Kostomay and
Hattie Simon.
She
was a member of Temple B’Rith Sholom in Springfield and of the
American Legion Auxiliary.

Garland
Gupton, 86, of Lincoln died at 4:52 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2000,
at Maple Ridge Health Care Center in Lincoln.
Funeral
services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Pastor Larry Maffett officiating.
Burial,
with military rites, will be in Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Masonic
services will be at 8 p.m.
Gupton
was a retired farmer. He had also worked in delivery at Lincoln
Developmental Center.
He
was born April 16, 1913, in rural Menard County, a son of Everett
and Lucille (McKinsey) Gupton. He married Mary C. Lloyd April 7,
1946, at Middletown.
One
son, John E. Gupton of Vernon Hills, survives.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
He
was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middletown; the
Middletown American Legion; Lincoln Masonic Temple, where he was a
32nd degree Mason and past master; Ansar Shrine; Eastern Star, as a
worthy patron; VFW; Consistory; and Amvets.
Memorials
may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Diabetes
Association.

Clarice
N. Knowles, 77, of Lincoln died at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 21,
2000, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
An
Amaranth service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24,
followed by the funeral service at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln.
Burial
will be in Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown.
Visitation
will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Lincoln,
with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m.
Mrs.
Knowles worked as an aide at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, and
she worked for 13 years as a cook at Mary-Henry Nursing Home.
She
was born July 18, 1922, at Meriden, Conn., a daughter of Richard and
Clarice (Nevin) Gade. She married Kenneth Knowles Oct. 18, 1947, at
Meriden, Conn. He survives, in Lincoln.
Also
surviving are two sons, Lawrence Knowles of Springfield and George
Knowles of Lincoln; one daughter, Karen (and David) Lindsey of
Effingham; one brother, John (and Hedy) Gade of Meriden, Conn.; one
sister, Dorothea (and Henry) Dickinson of Plantsville, Conn.; and
three grandsons, Timothy (and Jamie) McCoy of Arcola, Joshua McCoy
of Lincoln and Matthew Knowles of Lincoln; one granddaughter, Molly
Knowles of Lincoln; one great-grandson, Donovan McCoy of Arcola; and
one great-granddaughter, Peyton McCoy of Arcola.
She
was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She
was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Meriden, Conn., a past
worthy matron of Lincoln Chapter #351 Order of Eastern Star, a past
royal matron of Springfield Court #8 Order of Amaranth, and a member
and past president of Middletown American Legion Auxiliary.
