Dean
E. Alexander, 88, of Lincoln died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000,
at Christian Village Nursing Home in Lincoln.
Alexander
has been cremated, and a private committal service will be at a
later date, with burial in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be at the First Baptist Church in Lincoln from 5 to 7 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 13. A memorial service of praise celebrating his life
will be at the First Baptist Church in Lincoln on Saturday, Oct. 14,
at 2 p.m.
Alexander
retired in 1976 from First National Bank, where he was vice
president.
He
was born Oct. 1, 1912, in Kinmundy to Fred G. and Pearl M. (Jackson)
Alexander. He married Blanche A. Morfey on May 29, 1932, in
Charleston. She survives.
Also
surviving are two daughters, Margaret M. (and husband Robert) Doyle
of Marion, Iowa, and Judith A. Katz of Lincoln; one son, David E.
(and wife Sonnie) Alexander of Lincoln; six grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Nelda
Humphrey of Tampa, Fla.; and one brother, Xon Alexander of Elberton,
Ga.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
He
was a resident of Lincoln since 1939. He was the manager at Sears
Roebuck & Co. in Lincoln for a number of years before joining
the First National Bank.
He
was an active member of the Elks and Rotary clubs and served in
several positions of leadership.
He
was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln. He
loved his Lord and his church, and his life has made a positive
impact on the lives of those with whom he came in contact. A
Scripture that meant much to him through the years is Romans 8:28:
"And we know that all things work together for good, to them
who are the called according to His purpose."

Jerry
Jones, 46, of Middletown died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000,
at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Funeral
services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Don Hoover officiating.
Burial
will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln.
Jones
was employed by Lincoln College in maintenance work.
He
was born Feb. 8, 1954, at Lincoln to James Edgar and Mary L.
(Landers) Jones. He married Donna Knight on Jan 2, 1971, in English,
Ind. She survives, in Middletown.
Also
surviving are one son, James Jones of Middletown; two daughters,
BobbiJo (and Craig) Fulscher of Middletown and Penny Jones of
Lincoln; three grandchildren; three brothers, James Jones of
Middletown, and Michael and Wayne Jones of Crawford County, Ind.;
and one sister, Mary Osborne of Lincoln.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one sister.
He
was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Memorials
may be made to the Oncology Department at Memorial Medical Center in
Springfield or to St. Jude’s research.

Melvin
"Doc" Miller, 84, of Lincoln died at 8:38 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Herbert Coates and the Rev.
William Dolan officiating.
Graveside
services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Macedonia Cemetery, Macedonia.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Miller
was retired from Lincoln Developmental Center.
He
was born April 4, 1916, at Macedonia to William and Ada (Meadows)
Miller. He married Veta Hall on Dec. 1, 1940, at Perryville, Mo. She
died April 27, 2000.
Surviving
are one son, Loyd (and Joan) Johnson of Lincoln; two
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Cameron
Miller of Benton; and two sisters, Margaret Moore of Macedonia and
Louise Carlton of Brazil, Ind.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson.
He
was a member of Lincoln Hill Free Methodist Church in Lincoln.

Donna
M. Schulmeister, 62, of rural Atlanta died at 10:30 a.m. Monday,
Oct. 9, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral
services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Zion Lutheran
Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan officiating.
Committal service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Shiloh
Cemetery, Whittington.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holland & Barry Funeral
Home in Lincoln and at Zion Lutheran Church for one hour before the
service time on Thursday.
Mrs.
Schulmeister was a homemaker and mother.
She
was born May 14, 1938, at Geneva to Phyllis (Johnson). She married
Ronald V. Schulmeister on March 4, 2000. He survives.

surviving are Kathryn (and husband James) Pendergrass of Mendon,
Mich., Thomas Ortner Jr. of Whittington, Sherry (and husband Robert)
Richardson of Largo, Fla., Valerie Ortner of Atlanta (Ill.), Ron
(and wife Jacqueline) Schulmeister Jr. of Villa Park, Michael (and
wife Sandra) Schulmeister of Atlanta, Ga., Jett (and husband Don)
Brown of Taylorville, Bonnie (and husband Jerry) Roberts of
Cincinnati, Ohio, and James Colson of Evansville; 20 grandchildren,
including Shaun, Angie, Amanda, Allie, Jeffrey, Dylan, Marcus,
Amber, Matt, Crimson, Mikey, Sara, Jamie, Jason and Sharon;
great-grandchildren Keeley, Brett, Austin and Rocky; one brother,
Stanley Makaraitis of Aitkin, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Cheryl (and
husband Frank) Coleman of Tennessee; and a brother-in-law, Alan
Schulmeister of Melrose Park.
She
was preceded in death by previous husband Thomas W.S. Ortner Sr.; a
grandson, Thomas Franklyn Ortner; and numerous family members.
She
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln and the Ladies
Garden Club of Vicksburg, Mich.
She
loved eagle watching and traveling. She loved to sit on the porch
and watch her hummingbirds and bird feeders. She also loved growing
flowers and plants and mowing the grass.
Mrs.
Schulmeister is described as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother,
sister and friend who was dearly loved and will be missed by all her
family and friends. An obituary statement says, "She touched
the life of every person that ever knew her. She gave all her love
without expecting anything in return. She gave her life and heart to
God and trusted in Him."
