is domestic violence and how does it affect you? Domestic violence is a pattern
of assaultive and coercive behaviors, including physical, sexual and
psychological attacks, as well as economic coercion, that adults or adolescents
use against their intimate partners to gain or maintain power and control. To
increase awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence in Logan County, the
Domestic Abuse and Violence Task Force of the Healthy Communities Partnership is
sponsoring a community gathering on Thursday, Oct. 12.

At
least that’s what the fans of the St. Louis Rams and Indianapolis Colts are
saying. Both teams are off to a good start. In fact, the Rams are one of only
two undefeated teams in the entire National Football League. The other of
course, is the Minnesota Vikings. The Chicago Bears on the other hand are not
flexing their muscles. But, do they have the personnel that those other teams
have? This week the LDN offers up a progress report and prognosticates on what
the future may hold.

Lincoln’s
wooden bat team
extends record to 7-1
[OCT.
12, 2000] Lincoln’s
wooden bat high school team continued its winning ways last Sunday, taking a
doubleheader, 1-0 and 7-2, from the Normal-based MacDonald All-Star team in
games at Lincoln College. The All-Stars had players from Normal Community,
Bloomington High School, Quincy, Galesburg, Streator and Prairie Central. The
Lincoln team now stands at 7-1 in its fall season. In weather more fitting for
winter football, the team faced nature’s elements in extraordinary fashion.

Zonta’s
annual turkey dinner will be Sunday, Nov. 5 [OCT.
12, 2000] The
Zonta Club of Lincoln is sponsoring their annual turkey dinner fund-raiser on
Sunday, Nov. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Lincoln Community High School
cafeteria, where over a thousand people are expected to share a traditional
turkey dinner with all the trimmings plus dessert and drinks. [announcement]
Ladies
singing group welcomes guests at rehearsal [OCT.
12, 2000] Ladies,
young and young at heart: Do you sing with a school group or a church choir? An
area cappella ladies group is looking for additional singers. With the Christmas
season drawing near, this group will be studying and singing Christmas music
arranged in four-part harmony. Most of these songs you will already be familiar
with. We have several singing engagements already scheduled, and this would be a
good time to visit a rehearsal. [announcement]
