[OCT. 24, 2000]  This week is National Pharmacy Week, and the theme is "Educate Before you Medicate." That is exactly what pharmacist Jim White of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital stressed when he visited the Oasis Senior Center this morning. White began his presentation by reminding those at the Oasis Center that the present political debate over prescription drugs is not new. The first time a prescription drug plan was proposed for legislation was around the time of Watergate. The second proposal was only four years ago.

[OCT. 24, 2000]  When the World Series is over and the upcoming election is done, it won't be the end of the display of names, numbers and opinions. There are always messages to read along the streets, in the parking lots, at the curbs and in the driveways. There are always names and numbers running across rectangular plates at home and elsewhere. For those who'd like a break from watching for runs that cross home plate and from reading about which way to vote, here's a selection from a quick weekend sampling of what the license plates say around town.

Wooden bat team splits
weekend doubleheaders

[OCT. 24, 2000]  Lincoln’s high school wooden bat team split two doubleheaders over the weekend to push its outstanding record to 11-3. After allowing five Quincy runs in the sixth inning and losing 7-6 in its first game Saturday, Lincoln retaliated by trouncing Quincy 10-0. In Sunday’s games, Lincoln defeated Dwight 4-2 but fell short in the second game 6-4.

LCC volleyball to retire four-time All-American’s No. 11

[OCT. 24, 2000]  Lincoln Christian College will retire the No. 11 uniform of Stephanie Nangle-Farr, LCC volleyball middle hitter, 1996-1999.

Lynx take the cake in first round of playoffs in region

[OCT. 24, 2000]  Playing against John Wood in the first round of regional playoffs, Lincoln won at home in a five-game match, with scores of 15-11, 10-15, 14-16, 15-4 and 15-7.

LC fights into double OT to win men’s soccer game

[OCT. 24, 2000]  Playing against Lewis and Clark, the Lincoln College Lynx won in the first round of soccer regionals. Playing on home grounds, they battled into double overtime to win 3-2.
