Wilbur Peasley

Wilbur Paul Peasley of Atlanta, formerly of Waynesville, died at 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at Eminence Christian Church, with Andy Glass officiating.

Peasley will be buried in Roaches Chapel Cemetery in rural Atlanta.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at the Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, and one hour before the service on Wednesday.

Peasley farmed in the Atlanta and Waynesville areas until his retirement in 1989.

He was born April 22, 1918, in rural DeWitt County. He married Mary Louise Purlee on June 17, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo. She died Aug. 13, 1999.

He was also preceded in death by one son, James P. Peasley, on Nov. 11, 1979.

Peasley is survived by two sons, Richard Peasley of Chestnut and Larry L. (Janet) Peasley of Maroa; daughter-in-law Linda Peasley of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Donald P. and Krystal A. Peasley of Atlanta, Shellie L. (David) Reed of Albuquerque, N.M., Tammy K. Peasley of Normal, Darric (Amy) Peasley of Mount Pulaski, Erica L. Peasley of Chestnut, J.D. and Tim Peasley of Maroa; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah N. and Jayme L. Reed of Alburquerque, N.M.

He was a member of the Illinois National Guard. He attended the Eminence Christian Church in Atlanta.

He was an avid Cub fan and also enjoyed nature.

 Helen Mahler

Helen J. Mahler, 99, of Lincoln died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan and the Rev. William Adam officiating.

Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Miss Mahler worked for 37 years at the Carson, Pierie, Scott store on State Street in Chicago. After she retired, she made her home in Lincoln with a niece, Elda Mahler.

She was born Feb. 3, 1902, in Altamont to John Henry and Margaret (Gerkins) Mahler.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Henry, William, Richard and Fred, and six sisters, Anna Yagow, Elizabeth Sielaff, Sophie Heidbreder, Caroline Huelskoetter, and infants Dora and Marie Mahler.

She was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. She was also a member of Lincoln Woman’s Club, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, A.A.R.P. and the missionary society of her church.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or St. Clara’s Manor.


Edith Evans

Edith Alice Evans died at 12:20 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2001, at Lincoln Christian Village, where she resided.

A memorial service will be held at the Lincoln Christian Village Congregate Building in Lincoln on Tuesday, April 17, at 11 a.m., with Marianna Taylor officiating.

Mrs. Evans was cremated, and the remains will be placed in Horican Cemetery in Truman, Minn.

Mrs. Evans was a homemaker. Before moving to Lincoln, she lived in Logan, Iowa, and Bradenton, Fla.

She was born on July 2, 1921 in Mill Iron, Mont., to Charles and Anny (Nicol) Fuller. She married Robert H. Evans on Sept. 10, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minn.

Mrs. Evans is survived by two sons, David (Harriett) Evans of Suffolk, Va., and Charles (Beverly) Evans of Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Joy (Larry) Whitbeck of Lincoln and Beth (Elton) Hillard of Rochert, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Robert Fuller of Cincinnati, Ohio; and one sister, Lois Rees of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Frances.

Mrs. Evans was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.
