Gerald
R. Carter, 71, of Lincoln died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001,
at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
His
funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Holland
and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Robert Baker
officiating.
Burial
will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Carter
retired in 1994 after farming in Logan, Sangamon and Menard
counties.
He
was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Litchfield, Ky., to Lester B. and Esther
Edith Gaither Carter. He married Doris J. Behrens on Oct. 22, 1949,
at the Methodist church in Middletown.
Surviving
Carter are his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Mary Laesch of Mount
Pulaski; two sons, Kenneth Carter of Chestnut and James Carter of
Chicago; two brothers, Lester Carter of Athens and Harold Carter of
Williamsville; five sisters, Jereline Long of Seymour, Ind., Eileen
Grampp of Williamsville, JoAnn Tibbs of Williamsville, Yvonne Dobey
of St. Peters, Mo., and Carolyn Bishop of Grand Ledge, Mich.; four
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Bernard,
Neil, Sheryl J. and an infant.
He
was a member of Beason United Methodist Church and Elks Club of
Lincoln.
Memorials
may be made to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Mary
Lou Cadwallader, 70, of Decatur died at 12:31 a.m. Sunday, July 29,
2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Graveside
services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Camp Butler Cemetery
in Springfield.
Mrs.
Cadwallader was a homemaker for her family.
She
was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Lincoln to Byford and Marie Gurley Boyd.
She married John Cadwallader on Nov. 21, 1948. He died March 24,
2000.
Surviving
are two daughters, Beverly Helm (and husband George) of Decatur and
Janice Enstrom (and husband Fred) of Escondido, Calif.; one son,
Gary Cadwallader of Libbey, Mont.; two brothers, James Boyd (and
wife Kay) of Broadwell and Jerry Lee Boyd of Lincoln; four sisters,
Kathryn Goodman (and husband Walter) of Atlanta, Dorothy Bale (and
husband Jack) of Lincoln, Sue Urbain of Petersburg and Marilyn Kay
Stoll (and husband Clarence) of Chestnut; and eight grandchildren.
She
was a member of Lincoln Hill Free Methodist Church.

M.
Avis Peacock, 86, of Lincoln died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001,
at the Christian Village.
Her
funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tim Searby officiating.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service.
Visitation
in Woodbine, Iowa, will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at
the Faust Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. at
the Woodbine Cemetery.
Mrs.
Peacock was a former beauty operator and secretary who sold travel
trailers.
She
was born Sept. 28, 1914, in Dunlap, Iowa, to Roy and Helen Hubbard
Thompson. She married Lloyd Mefferd in 1934. He died April 17, 1989.
She married Robert Peacock in December of 1989. He died Dec. 30,
1993.
Surviving
are two daughters, Marlene Bragg (and Jerry) of Lincoln and Marjean
Deliduka (and George) of Coon Rapids, Minn.; one brother, Ivan
Thompson of Storm Lake, Iowa; one sister, Opal DuBois of Spencer,
Iowa; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
She
was also preceded in death by one brother, Earl.
She
attended Lincoln Christian Church and Sunday School.

Leigh Berry, 82, of Mount Pulaski died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 31,
2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
His
funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Bill Shanle officiating.
Burial,
with military rites, will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, rural Mount
Pulaski.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.
Berry
was a retired farmer and carpenter.
He
was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He
was born May 27, 1919, in Mount Pulaski to Glen and Ruth Coats
Berry. He married Rena McAfee on May 25, 1947, in Lincoln.
Surviving
Berry are his wife, of Mount Pulaski; one daughter, Pat Woodard (and
Tom) of Bloomington; one son, Mike Berry (and Darlene) of Mount
Pulaski; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one
great-grandson.
He
was a member of Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447.
