Nellie Cook

Nellie N. Cook, 77, of Atlanta died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Mr. David Harmon officiating.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cook was employed at various jobs throughout her life. She worked at the Deaconess Hospital, St. Clara’s Hospital, Mary Henry Nursing Home, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, the Elk’s Club and the Tropics Restaurant, all in Lincoln. She also worked at Short’s Nursing Home and Bill’s 66 in Atlanta

She was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Casey to Perry and Nellie May Coleman Hires. She married Icem Hillard Cook in Lincoln on Sept. 16, 1947. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kenneth Cook of Atlanta; and three grandchildren, Icem Eugene Cook of Atlanta, Catherine Kay Cook of Atlanta, and Robert Hillard Cook of Lagrange, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by one son.

Memorials may be made to Atlanta Rescue Squad or the Atlanta Fire Department.


Beulah Smith

Beulah G. Smith, 91, of Mason City died at 8:11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, with the Rev. William Boyce officiating.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ms. Smith worked in Detroit on an assembly line building planes during World War II and later cared for young children and the elderly in Mt. Vernon and throughout central Illinois.

She was born July 22, 1910, in Galt, Mo. to Otis and Vesta Harris Smith.

Surviving are two sisters, Thelma Ralls of Lansing, Mich. and Kay Macke of Janesville, Wisc.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

She was a member of First Christian church of Mason City.

Memorials may be made to Mason City Library Foundation.

Elton Huntington

Elton E. Huntington, 94, of Lincoln died at 8:22 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Kraus Retirement Home.

His funeral services will be at Roller Funeral Home in Mountain Home, Ark. Local arrangements are being done by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

He will be buried in Baxter Memorial Gardens in Mountain Home.

Mr. Huntington served in the National Guard.

He was born March 24, 1907, in Milwaukee, Wisc. to Vernon Edward and Viletta Addington Huntington. He married Isabell Watson in Chicago on Nov. 17, 1929. She preceded him in death in August of 1997.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard Huntington.

Surviving is one son, Vernon Huntington of Lincoln.

Mr. Huntington was a member of Assembly of God Church in Mountain Home.

Memorials may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
