Harold DeVore

Harold Ray DeVore, 81, of Lincoln died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, at the Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in Kline Cemetery, Broadwell.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

DeVore was owner and operator of DeVore’s Garage and Welding Shop in Lincoln. He also farmed in West Lincoln Township.

He was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Forest City to Charles Ray and Lillian (Gowan) DeVore. He married Imogene Kennedy on Aug. 3, 1940, in Keokuk, Iowa.

Surviving DeVore are his wife, of Lincoln; three sons, Larry (Brenda) DeVore of Lincoln, Louis (Charlene) DeVore of Bourbonnais and Lynn (Marcy) DeVore of Lincoln; one daughter, Linda (Robert) Coffey of Sisters, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nelson (Jan) DeVore of Havana and Gene DeVore of Kenosha, Wis.; and two sisters, Carol Nissen of Manito and Norma Croce of Bristol, Conn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

He was a member of Lincoln Auxiliary Police.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Hospice of Central Illinois.

Amka Bartmann

Amka E. H. Bartmann, 97, of Lincoln died at 8:10 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Zion Cemetery, Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Bartmann was a retired registered nurse. She had been in private practice for many years.

She was born Dec. 31, 1903, in New Holland to Reiner and Gesina (Koester) Bartmann.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Anton, Henry, Ralph and Reiner Bartmann, and five sisters, Titie Stuan, Anna Berger, Matilda Mills, Gesina Koester and Frieda Bartmann.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, the Happy Wednesday Club and Nurses Alumni.

She graduated from New Holland High School and, in 1931, from Deaconess Hospital in Lincoln.


Matthew Eichelberger

Matthew Tyler Eichelberger was stillborn Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Seoul, South Korea, to Randy and Lisa Eichelberger.

His funeral was Wednesday, May 2, in Brandon, Fla., with Pastor Gene Vetter of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Palm Harbor, Fla., officiating.

Besides his parents, Matthew is survived by one sister, Diana, and three brothers, RJ, Steven and Austin, all of Seoul, South Korea.

Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, Annie Kovalsky of Nokomis, Fla.; his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Nancy Eichelberger of Odessa, Fla., formerly of Emden; his maternal great-grandmother, Anne Williams of Sarasota, Fla; maternal aunts Doreen Cohenour of Sarasota, Fla., and Laura Wigglesworth of Winter Park, Fla.; maternal uncles Robert and Daniel Ayers of Sarasota, Fla., and Michael Ayers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; paternal aunt Amy Eichelberger of Odessa, Fla.; and many cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.

Matthew will be sadly missed by all his family.

Alice Hieser

Alice M. Hieser, 89, of Hopedale died on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at 6:15 a.m. at the Hopedale Nursing Home.

Visitation will be at Davis Mortuary, Hopedale, on Thursday, May 3, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be at the Hopedale United Methodist Church on Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m.

Private burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Hopedale, at a later date. Davis Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

She was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Peoria, a daughter of Edward H. and Mary (Tregellas) Naffziger, and had lived all her life in Hopedale. She was a graduate of Hopedale schools and attended Illinois Wesleyan University.

She was married to Wilmer Hieser on Aug. 8, 1930. He died in April 1995.

Surviving are three children: one daughter, Joan Crabb of Lincoln; two sons, John (Sharon) Hieser of Armington and Thomas Hieser of Hopedale; one daughter-in-law, Fern Hieser of Round Rock, Texas; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

One son, Major Michael W. Hieser, USAF Ret., one brother and one granddaughter preceded her in death.

She was a member of Hopedale United Methodist Church for more than 75 years and served in various capacities on its administrative board as well as being a Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She was active in the United Methodist Women’s organization, having been a past president of the local group and serving for several years on the district board.

She had been a member and past worthy matron of Hopedale chapter, Order of Eastern Star. A part-time helper in her husband’s insurance office, she also served as village clerk of Hopedale for 10 years. She was a member of the group that founded the Hopedale Village Library in 1980 and has been one of its volunteer librarians for 15 years.

Her favorite hobby was writing poetry, both humorous and serious, and a book of her poems, "Thoughts," was privately published for friends and family members in 1993.

Memorials may be made to Hopedale United Methodist Church or to Hopedale Village Library.


Warren Gallagher

Warren W. Gallagher, 83, of Lincoln died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in Tucson, Ariz.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home.

Entombment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at the Hott Mausoleum in Monticello Cemetery, Monticello.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Gallagher was a veteran of World War II. He was a B-24 navigator with the 392nd Bomb Group and served four years with the 8th Air Force.

He was born March 26, 1918, in Lincoln to David C. and Rose (White) Gallagher. He married Jeanne (Hott).

Surviving Gallagher are his wife; two daughters, Lesliann Gallagher McKay of Evergreen, Colo., and Sharon Gallagher Smith of Sherman; one grandson, Fredric H. Smith of Davidson, N.C.; and two stepsons, Charles Michael Bennis of Greenwich, Conn., and John Maxwell Bennis of Virginia Beach, Va.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters and one brother.

He was a member of Lincoln IOOF, Lincoln Elks, Pima Air Museum, Mountain Oyster Club, Tucson Country Club and the board of Lincoln College.
