Joseph
R. McDowell, 79, of Chatham, N.J., died at 4:23 a.m. Wednesday, May
9, 2001, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown County, N.J. He
was the husband of a former Lincoln resident.
Graveside
services, with military rites, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16,
at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor
officiating.
There
will be no local visitation. Kerrigan Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
A
funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s
Church in Chatham, N.J. ,
was Friday, May 11.
McDowell
was a freight claims manager for the Southern Pacific Railroad of
San Francisco, Calif., and New York City, N.Y. He retired in 1982.
He
was a tech sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He
was born March 21, 1922, in Orville, Ky.
He
and his wife, the former Mary Catherine Ryan, were married 58 years.
She survives, in Chatham, N.J.
Also
surviving are one son, Jerrold McDowell of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.;
three daughters, Patricia Minor of Lexington, S.C., Kay Compton of
Byram, N.J., and Marta McDowell Bent of Chatham, N.J.; five
grandchildren; and two sisters, Imogene Mason and Condi Coppersmith
of Kentucky.
Memorials
may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Carroll
Catholic School building fund.

Anthony
L. "Tony" Howe, 39, of Chestnut died at 12:55 a.m.
Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in
Lincoln.
Funeral
services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Richard Stamm
officiating.
Burial
will be in Lake Bank Cemetery.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the funeral home in
Mount Pulaski.
Howe
was a postal worker in Mount Pulaski.
He
was born Dec. 19, 1961, in Lincoln to Keith and Janice (Lowe) Howe.
He married Wanda Jean Eckert in Lincoln on Sept. 6, 1985.
Howe
is survived by his mother, of Lincoln; three daughters, Tiffany
(Joseph) Kretzinger, Traci Howe and Jordan Howe, all of Chestnut;
one granddaughter, Skye Kretzinger of Chestnut; his maternal
grandmother, Marge Marquis of Mount Pulaski; and one sister, Robina
Yvonne (Warren) Ray of Mars Hills, N.C.
He
was preceded in death by his father, Keith "Pete" Howe,
who died June 3, 1987.
He
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Chestnut.
Howe
was assistant girls basketball coach at Mount Pulaski Grade School.
