James Strunk

James E. Strunk, 68, of Lincoln died at 6:17 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Larry Maffett officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

There will be no visitation.

Strunk retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. He also drove school buses for Lincoln schools.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was born Aug. 11, 1933, to Jack and Goldie Black Strunk. He married Irene Kinton on Nov. 20, 2000, in Lincoln. She survives.

Also surviving are one stepdaughter, Carol (and husband Bill) Troxel of Linn Creek, Mo.; two stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the local humane society or the American Cancer Society.

John Gaspar

John S. Gaspar, 80, of Lincoln died at 12:20 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at St. Clara’s Manor.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Peters officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gaspar was a millwright for Carpenter’s Local 1693 in Chicago for 50 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Chicago to John and Elizabeth Gaspar Gaspar. He married Doris Brown on June 2, 1945, in Chicago.

Surviving are his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Martin Gaspar of Oak Park; one daughter, Patricia (and husband Ronald) Hook of Dayton, Ohio; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Milan Gaspar of Des Plaines.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Chicago.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Illinois or Community Action.

Oliver Diez

Oliver L. Diez, 84, of Mount Pulaski died at 9:53 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Bill Shanle and Scott Moore officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Mount Pulaski.

Diez retired after 39 years of farming.

He was born April 23, 1917, at Lake Fork to Joseph H. and Mary Ann Huffman Diez. He married Doris Moore in Lincoln on Nov. 2, 1945.

Surviving are his wife, of Mount Pulaski; one brother, Wendell W. Diez of Mount Pulaski; three sisters-in-law, Betty Swick of Mount Pulaski, Colen Wilcockson of Springfield and Gladys Moore of Mount Pulaski; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

He was affiliated with Mount Pulaski Christian Church and Buffalo Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to either church.

Lois Stahl

Lois Carol Stahl, 66, of Mount Pulaski died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her home.

Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Droegemueller officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

She was office manager at Stahl Furniture in Mount Pulaski before her retirement.

She was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Lincoln to Floyd and Helen Dammerman Schaffenacker. She married Edwin L. Stahl in Mount Pulaski on Aug. 7, 1958. He died June 19, 2000.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (and husband Tom) Martin of Mount Pulaski and Cathy (and Jim) Porter of Leawood, Kan.; one son, Doug Stahl of Denver, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Mount Pulaski and was a church organist for 53 years. She was treasurer of the Mount Pulaski American Legion Auxiliary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to her church or to Zion Lutheran School in Mount Pulaski.
