Orville
C. Minder, 92, of Lincoln died at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001,
at Maple Ridge Care Centre.
His
funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Holy Family
Church in Lincoln, with Monsignor Edward Higgins and the Rev. Thomas
Taylor officiating.
Burial
will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kerrigan Funeral Home in Lincoln. The rosary
will be recited at 5 p.m., and the wake service will be at 6:45 p.m.
Minder
was a farmer. He and his brother, Edgar, owned and operated Minders
Dairy in Lincoln in their youth.
He
was born March 19, 1909, in Lincoln to Matthew and Mary Awe Minder.
He married Anna Stuan on Aug. 25, 1938, in Lincoln.
Surviving
are his wife, Anna Minder of Lincoln; one son, Gary (husband of
Cindy) Minder of Lincoln; one daughter, Marianne (wife of Ray)
Rakers of Springfield; eight grandchildren; and one
great-granddaughter.
He
was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
He
was a a board member of East Lincoln Grain from 1965 to 1980 and a
member of the Logan County Farm Bureau.
He
was a licensed pilot for over 40 years, past member of the
Experimental Aviation Association and member of the Flying Farmers.
Memorials

Julia
B. Durst, 78, of Indian Lake Estates, Fla., formerly of Homer and
Elkhart, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Lakeland
Regional Medical Center in Florida.
Her
funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Dan Wissmann officiating.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln and one hour before the service at the church on
Saturday.
Mrs.
Durst, a registered nurse, worked at St. John’s Hospital in
Springfield and Carle Hospital in Urbana.
She
served in the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II.
She
was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Elkhart to Everett and Louise Gluick
Bock. She married Lester L. "Coogie" Durst on Sept. 19,
1948, in Lincoln.
Surviving
Mrs. Durst are her husband, of Indian Lake Estates, Fla.; one
daughter, Debra D. (and husband Thomas F.) Mullins III of Milford,
Del; one grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by two brothers.
She
was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Wells, Fla., and a
past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
She
was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, a past member of the American
Legion in Homer and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary
in Homer.

M. Bauer, 82, of Lincoln died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001,
at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Her
funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Gary Zustiak officiating.
Burial
will be in Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs.
Bauer worked in the Logan County treasurer’s office for 25 years
before her retirement.
She
was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Lincoln to George and Roxie Moore Awe.
She married Walter Bauer. He died in 1975.
Surviving
are one daughter, Sherrian (and husband Roy) Ekstrom of Lincoln, and
several nieces and nephews.
She
was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
She
was a member of Broadwell Christian Church, American Business Women’s
Association and Women’s Eagles Lodge.

Mrs.
Smith was a homemaker.
She
was born Jan. 10, 1946, to Merton and Dorothy Franz Vannoy. She
married Walter H. Smith Jr. on May 29, 1965, in Springfield.
Surviving
Mrs. Smith are her husband, of Decatur; three sons, Rodney (and wife
Kelly) Smith of Decatur, Bradley (and Angela) Smith of Altamont and
Matt (and Annie) Smith of Decatur; two granddaughters, Sydney and
Gracye Smith of Decatur; and one brother, Dennis Vannoy of Oklahoma.
She
was preceded in death by her parents.
She
was a volunteer at Dennis School, where she served as a noon hour
supervisor. She also did volunteer work for the Salvation Army,
including help with the Angel Tree project.
She
was a former licensed beautician and a graduate of Springfield
Beauty School.
She
was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Ruby
Fern Snowder, 76, of Rigby, Idaho, formerly of Hurricane, Utah, died
Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Her
funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Eckersell
Memorial Chapel in Rigby, Idaho, with Bishop David Briggs
officiating.
Burial
will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
The
family will visit with friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs.
Snowder was nurse.
She
served in the Women’s Army Corps from 1946 and 1949 and attained
the rank of captain.
She
was born Feb. 27, 1925, at Middletown to Roy A. and Ida Mae Bock
Boward.
She
married Harold Wesley Snowder on Aug. 14, 1949, at Fort Lewis, Wash.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple on
Dec. 29, 1967.
Surviving
Mrs. Snowder are two sons, H. Dale (and wife Kristie) Snowder of
Rigby, Idaho, and Garry D. (and Joyce) Snowder of Dubois, Idaho;
nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen
Louise (and Merlyn) Heyen of Middletown and Wilma Jean (and Delas)
Johnson of Middletown; and one brother, Don Boward of Middletown.
She
was preceded in death by her husband and a sister.
She
was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints, where she taught gospel doctrine class, was a visiting
teacher, and loved genealogy and the LDS Institute program.
She
graduated from the University of Chicago with a nursing degree and
worked for 35 years as a county health nurse and in several private
nursing homes and hospitals.
Mrs.
Snowder had moved to Rigby, Idaho, to be near her family.
She
enjoyed traveling and fulfilled one of her dreams by recently
traveling to Guatemala and Mexico City.
