Junior Woman’s Club celebrates Illinois Junior Week
10-11-01
Dear Editor:
The Lincoln Junior
Woman’s Club is one of the 103 Junior clubs of the GFWC Illinois
Junior Organization, which promotes community service and
volunteerism for the women of our community. The GFWC Illinois
Junior Organization has planned a "GFWC Illinois Junior
Week" Oct. 7-13, 2001, to call attention to the many
accomplishments of the Federated Junior Woman’s Clubs.
The Lincoln Juniors
will celebrate Illinois Junior Week by doing several projects,
such as taping books onto cassette for nursing home residents,
painting pumpkins and donating them to nursing homes, donating
funds to the LCHS National Honor Society’s ecology project,
distributing women’s health flyers since October is Breast
Cancer Awareness month, collecting baby items to be given to the
first baby born during Junior Week, donating funds to the LCHS
foreign arts department, and donating two smoke alarms to
Community Action. Junior Week is a few short days, but we
have several projects planned for the coming 2001-2002 year.
We will also have a
display that shows some of the projects that we do during the
year, in the window of the former antique store on Broadway.
As president of the
Lincoln Junior Woman’s Club, I would like to take this
opportunity to thank the community for its continual support of
our efforts.
Sincerely,
Sara Sielaff
President, Lincoln Junior Woman’s
Club

Praise

To the editor:
I would like to let people
in this community know about my experience in the ALMH Emergency
Room. I sent the following letter to ALMH before I left Lincoln.
Woody Hester, CEO
Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital
Lincoln, IL 62656
Dear Sir,
Going
on a vacation is fun, but ending up in an emergency room is not part
of the vacation plan.
Finding
it necessary to seek out your hospital on the evening of Tuesday,
Oct. 2, I was pleasantly surprised. First, I found an immaculate
facility with a more-than-adequate staff to tend to my needs
immediately.
I was
taken to my cubicle by the capable nurse Harlyne, who hooked me up
to the necessary apparatus while reassuring me in a friendly and
caring manner. The emergency room doctor, Dr. Pinter, was with me
quickly and was also friendly and reassuring. He arranged for a
blood work-up and another test, while Teri, the technician, who was
also very capable and kind, drove over from Mount Pulaski to
administer the necessary diagnostic test.
I was
surprised to learn that this test would be read immediately by
doctors in Springfield via the computer.
The
level of professionalism with which I was treated was such that when
I was allowed to leave, I felt completely confident that I had
nothing seriously wrong and that if I followed the doctor’s
recommendations I would be fine. That proved to be the case.
In
farewell, nurse Harlyne gave me a hug and said she was glad there
was nothing seriously wrong. I have been in many emergency rooms,
but I have never had such a caring response from the people in
charge.
Thank
you, staff, one and all, for making my stay so reassuring.
The
people of the Lincoln area are fortunate to have such a facility.
I do
have one recommendation. Please light your emergency sign clearly,
so people from out of town can find your emergency room quickly.
