William
L. Hammonds, 78, of Lincoln died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2001,
at St. Clara’s Manor.
His
funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Wayne Armstrong officiating.
Burial
will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Hammonds
was a retired mechanic. He had worked at Aue Buick in Lincoln.
He
was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He
was born April 14, 1923, in Benton to Archie and Nora Hammonds. He
married Carmalette "Corky" Smith on Feb. 19, 1955, in
Benton. She preceded him in death.
Surviving
are one son, Gary K. Hammonds of Inman, S.C.; one daughter, Sheila
McKown of Fairview Heights; one stepson, David (and Betty) Story of
Lincoln; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He
was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
He
was a member of Jefferson Street Christian Church.

Strohmenger
Elizabeth
"Bette" A. Strohmenger, 91, of Lincoln died at 6:50 a.m.
Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.
Memorial
services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at First
Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Paul Gilmore
officiating.
Her
body was donated to medical science.
Mrs.
Strohmenger was a homemaker for her family. She also worked at
Sangamo Electric.
She
was born March 9, 1910, in Lincoln to William and Annie Lawson
Clark. She married Walter L. Strohmenger in 1958 in Springfield. He
died March 17, 1988.
Surviving
are one son, Jack C. Fisher (and wife Kathy); five grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death one son, Robert Fisher, in 1994; three
brothers, Lemont, Minor and Edwin Clark; and one sister, Emma Clark.
She
was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln and of AARP.
She
enjoyed bowling and golfing.

Detmers
Joyce
A. Detmers, 59, of Hartsburg died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8,
2001, at her home.
Her
funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at St. John’s Lutheran Church
in Hartsburg, with Pastor David Russell officiating.
Burial
will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.
Visitation
is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Mrs. Detmers worked
as a receptionist at the Logan County Health Department.
She was born Feb. 12,
1942, in Lincoln to Stephen E. and Martha L. Klockenga Sloan. She
married Eddie Seaman in Hartsburg in August of 1961. He died in
February of 1981. She married Robert Detmers in Hartsburg in June of
1990. He survives.
Also surviving are
her parents, of Hartsburg; five sons, Galen (and wife Amy) Seaman of
Lincoln, Darren (and Jennifer) Seaman of Lincoln, Glen Detmers of
Lincoln, Duane (and Emily) Detmers of Emden and Doug (and Samantha)
Detmers of Hartsburg; six grandchildren; four brothers, James R.
Sloan of Lincoln, William (and Barb) Sloan of Sherman, Fred (and
Delores) Detmers of New Holland and Bill (and Diane) Detmers of
Normal; and four sisters, Frances (and Lester) Petersen of Lincoln,
Mary (and Frank) Pope of Mount Pulaski, Anna (and Lee) West of
Champaign and Alice Lessen of Emden.
She was also preceded
in death by one brother.
She was a member of
St. John’s Lutheran
Church of Hartsburg, a former Sunday School superintendent and
teacher, and a member of the church choir.
Memorials
may be made to Logan County Health Department, for medical
equipment; to her church; or to Hospice of Central Illinois.
