Struening
Barbara
H. Struening, 97, of Lincoln died at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26,
2001, at the Christian Village Nursing Home.
Her
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Holland
and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald
officiating.
Burial
will be in Old Union Cemetery.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Miss
Struening worked as an accountant for the Public Utility Co. and at
Lehn & Fink in Lincoln.
She
was born Dec. 19, 1903, in Lincoln to Fredrick and Rosina Gehlbach
Struening.
Surviving
are nieces and nephews, Hilda Keest of Lincoln, Elmer Struening of
New York, Barbara Hargus of Fargo, N.D., Lorene Mueller of
Arlington, Neb., Mary Struening of Lincoln and Grace Struening of
Macomb; and a number of grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She
was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Bauer and Alma Apel,
and three brothers, Adolph, Fred and Dave Struening.
She
was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, where she sang in
the choir and for a number of years was the Sunday Sunday
superintendent. She had been a member of the church’s Charity
Guild, the Christian Village Auxiliary and Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary.
Memorials
may be made to her church or to Christian Village Nursing Home.

‘Buffy’ Engelmann
Bertha
Marie "Buffy" Engelmann, 52, of Lincoln died at 6:05 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at her home.
Miss
Engelmann was cremated.
A
private graveside service was at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at
Zion Cemetery, Lincoln. J. Kent Hickerson officiated.
There
was no visitation.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home of Lincoln handled arrangements.
Miss
Engelmann was a former nurse’s aide at St. Clara’s Manor and a
licensed beautician.
She
was born Feb. 3, 1949, in Lincoln to Wilbur and Helen Webb Engelmann.
Surviving
are three sisters, Mary (and husband Harold) Begolka of Lincoln,
Lillyetta (and Arlie) Myer of Verona, Mo., and Patricia (and Carl)
Foster of Waynesville.
She
was preceded in death by her parents.
She
was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Lahr
Donald
Lewis Lahr, 80, of Quincy died at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25,
2001, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
A
graveside service, with military rites, will be at 1 p.m. Monday,
Oct. 1, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with the Rev.
Larry Maffett officiating.
Visitation
will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
Lahr
was retired from the military. He served in the U.S. Army in World
War II and the Korean War.
He
was born April 9, 1921, in Lincoln to Earl and Elsie Hindman Lahr.
Surviving
are three brothers, Bill and Ray Lahr of Lincoln and Tony Lahr of
Nevada, and two sisters, Mary Kuhajda of Dwight and Eileen Fulk of
Lincoln.
He
was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Lahr and Joe Lahr Sr.,
and two sisters, Dorothy Piacezesny and Mildred Pembrooke.
He
was of the Baptist faith.
He
was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American
Vets.
