Daniel Logan

Daniel J. Logan, 16, of Lincoln died Saturday evening, March 30, 2002, in an automobile accident at State Route 121 and Limit Street in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. A prayer service will be at 3:30 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Church in Lincoln, with Father Thomas Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Daniel Logan was a junior at Lincoln Community High School, where he enjoyed woodworking.

He was born July 1, 1985, in Springfield to Richard (Dick) and Marsha Tumilty Logan.

He is survived by his parents, of Lincoln; one brother, Darren Logan of Chicago; three sisters, Diana (and Derek) Schemansky of St. Peters, Mo., Sara Logan (Julian) Bradley of Aurora, Colo., and Elizabeth Logan of Lincoln; and one niece, Mariah Schemansky of St. Peters, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation for the ATOD Task Force or to the donor’s choice.

John Raycraft

John P. Raycraft, 69, of Lincoln died at 4:25 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Raycraft was cremated.

A memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Holy Family Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the Mass at the church.

Kerrigan Funeral Home, Lincoln, is in charge of arrangements.

Raycraft had been employed at Builders Supply in Bloomington and later was the owner of Contractors Ready Mix in Lincoln. He retired in 1994.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War era.

He was born Jan. 1, 1933, in rural McLean County to John and Margaret McDonald Raycraft. He married Barbara Dunn on Aug. 24, 1957, in Lincoln. She survives.

Other survivors are two sons, John (and Valerie) Raycraft of Fort Collins, Colo., James (and Laura) Raycraft of Williamsville; two daughters, Margaret (and Michael) Legel of Downers Grove, Janet (and David) Zeigler of Oak Park; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (and Mary) Raycraft of Bloomington and Joseph (and Mauna) Raycraft of Normal; and one sister, Virginia (and Patrick) O’Rourke of Downs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln, a board member of Logan County Parks and Trails, and a member of the American Gourd Society, Indiana Gourd Society and the Missouri Gourd Society. He served as a site interpreter at New Salem State Park for 16 years.

He was an avid woodworker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Oasis Senior Citizens Center or Holy Family Church, both in Lincoln, or to the Coalition For Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Lucille Smitherman

Lucille M. Smitherman, 89, of Lincoln died at 3:50 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Smitherman will be cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Kerrigan Funeral Home, Lincoln, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smitherman had been employed in Lincoln as a clerk for the former Montgomery Ward Co. and later at the Family Center. She retired in 1975.

She was born March 25, 1913, in Mount Pulaski to Joseph and Bessie May Allen Wright. She married Jesse Smitherman on Dec. 19, 1946, in Lincoln. He died April 4, 1988.

Survivors are daughter Sharon (wife of Michael) Hayes of Lincoln; three grandsons, Edward (and wife Becky) Morrow of Springfield, Derrick (and wife Tiffany) Ramsey of Lincoln and Brian (and wife Ashley) Ramsey of Lincoln; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, George Wright of Malverne, N.Y.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Kay Smitherman.


Shirley Turner

Shirley L. Turner, 68, of Mount Pulaski died at 5:13 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mount Pulaski. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Bill Shanle officiating.

Burial will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, rural Mount Pulaski.

Mrs. Turner was a clerk for the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation.

She was born June 11, 1933, in Logan County, to Raymond and Hazel Wilham Creager. She married Bill Turner in April 1953 in Decatur. He died in 1986.

Survivors are her mother, Hazel Bastin of Mount Pulaski; two sons, Dana W. (and Beth) Turner of St. Louis, Mo., and Jess E. (and Joni) Turner of Waynesville; two daughters, Vicki (and Victor) Wasik of Mount Pulaski and Rhonda Turner of Springfield; four grandchildren, J.D. Turner, Justin Turner, Jamie (and Dale) Ballenger and Deidre Turner; one great-granddaughter, Josie Ballenger; and one brother, Davy Creager of Mount Pulaski.

She was also preceded in death by her father; her stepfather, Earl Bastin; and two sisters, Diana and Jeanette Creager.

She was a member of Buffalo Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
