Donald
Baker, 93, of Bloomington died at 6:53 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2002,
at Bro-Menn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
His
funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Carmody-Flynn
Williamsburg Funeral Home. The Rev. David Dees will officiate.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial
will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Downs.
Baker
worked for the Eureka-Williams Company for over 48 years and retired
from advertising and promotion in 1976.
He
was born Dec. 21, 1908, at rural Atlanta to Tinsley M. and Imo Clark
Baker. He married Mary M. Mikel on March 22, 1941, at Bowling Green,
Mo. She survives.
Also
surviving are one daughter, Diane (and Andy) Klein of Kalispell,
Mont.; two sons, Van C. Baker and Jan M. Baker, both of Bloomington;
and one granddaughter, Jennie of Eugene, Ore.
He
was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Belle Baker, and two
brothers.
He
was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington for
over 50 years and was an usher there for many years. He was a past
member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles.
Don
and his wife loved to dance and follow big band music. He was an
avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling and caring for his cats.
Memorials
may be made to the youth ministry at Wesley United Methodist Church.

Lloyd
L. Goodin, 84, of Rochester, formerly of Atlanta, died 6:20 a.m.
Saturday, April 20, 2002, at St. John’s North Hospice,
Springfield.
Graveside
services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the Atlanta Cemetery,
with military rites accorded by the Atlanta American Legion Gresham-Crutchley
Post 341.
Quiram
Funeral Home in Atlanta was in charge of arrangements.
Friends
were invited to call at the Goodin residence, 11A Walberta Drive,
Rochester, from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
Goodin
was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the China and
India Burma Theatre.
He
was born July 16, 1917, at Louisiana, Mo., to Frank and Matilda
Bowles Goodin. He married Mary Louise Williams on Oct. 11, 1955. She
survives.
Also
surviving are one daughter, Penny Shea (and Neil) Passfield of
Rochester; two grandsons, Aaron Lloyd and Seth Allen; and one
brother, C. Wesley Goodin of Atlanta.
He
was preceded in death by two brothers.
He
was a member and past commander of the Atlanta American Legion, a
member of Odd Fellows Lodge and the South Fork Church of Christ,
Rochester.
Memorials
may be made to his church or to St. John’s North Hospice.

Carl
Apel
Carl
A. Apel, 91, of Lincoln died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002, at
the Christian Village Nursing Home.
His
funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at St. John United
Church of Christ, Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald
officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Apel
was retired from farming in Logan and Menard counties.
He
was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Broadwell Township to Charles G. and
Bertha C. Seefeldt Apel. He married Ruth Schrader in Lincoln on June
6, 1937. She survives.
He
was preceded in death by one sister, Leona E. Apel.
He
was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, where
he was baptized Jan. 5, 1911, by Reinhold Niebuhr and confirmed
March 28, 1926, by A. Hoefer.
He
was a member of the Men’s Brotherhood of the church and served as
secretary-treasurer of the church council. He was also a member of
the Logan County Farm Bureau, was a community committeeman for 20
years and served as county committeeman of ASCS for nine years,
including three years as president.
